A snatch strap is used when a vehicle is unable to continue momentum using its own power. This could be a result of getting bogged in sand or mud, loosing traction on gravel.

It is recommended the minimum breaking strength of the strap should be between 2 and 3 times the vehicle's Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM).
